I'm sure the broadcasters have done a lot of advertising for the past 2 years about the switch.

I don't understand why it needs to be postponed.

Sadly, there are huge amounts of confusion about the rollout itself. I remember reading last month surveys showing that over 30-40% of the population didn't know what they had to do to ensure television coverage. And with the EMS system, getting a tv signal isn't a luxury.

You'd think all those horrible commercials would educate, but it does/did not seem to be working.

I'm thinking that those people who do not know about it don't even watch TV even if they have one. The broadcasters have been announcing it for a long time.

If they haven't known about it for 2 or more years, and haven't been watching TV for that span of that time, what's a couple of months in the waiting list for a coupon for the converter box?

with the commercials not working, they don't want people to freak out when right after the "muslim terrorist gets put in office" their TV is just static.

The coupons are supposed to help. But the gov't doesn't have enough funding so people are on a waiting list.

Maybe Barack just found out that the Bushes never bothered upgrading the televisions in the White House?

What's the problem with postponing for a while? Who's gonna get hurt? I'm pretty sure a lot of people will be hurt if we don't postpone. Isn't "over the air" digital broadcast already here? I thought the switch was just turning the analog signals off.

genxcub has a valid point. The gov't failed to provide funds for coupons.

You're right, it doesn't hurt anyone if they postpone it. I think there would even be more money for advertisers.

The fund that gives coupons to people ran out of money. If you requested a coupon after 1/4, you're on a waiting list.

This is what I heard. I guess that's a valid reason to postpone it.

The technology to use the bandwidth is still developing. The whole country isn't wired for cable, in fact less and less people can still afford basic cable service. It's something they can do for lower income and for rural folks.

A friend of mine has an HD antenna that pics up digital over-the-air signal. The quality is impressive. People may not need cable at all.

Sadly it is too late to stop it for any real amount of time. The stations have all already invested in the new tech and all this will help are those people who have intentionally buried their heads in the sand. :P
