Do you guys use any? Any recommendations?

I got my rebates (from buying my AT&T 8525 Smartphone) so I'm on the hunt for a good UPS.

I had a power outage last night. My machines running Folding@Home had to reset their work units. :-(

Actually, I'm part of the Dawn and Drew Show Folding@Home. I think it's great to take part in this program. There are times I'm not using my PCs, so I might as well use the computing power.

So back to the UPS, any recommendations? What do any of you have?

I use APC brand UPS's. The price of the unit depends on the brand, and the length of time you want the battery to last. I've had great luck with APC so far.

I don't need them to last more than 10 mins. Just enough for short outages.

Do you use one for each desktop? or do you have one big one?

I'll check them out! Thanks!

Oh hell yeah! UPS were the first thing I looked at after building my first computer system about 10 years ago. I was so worried about losing my new system to a rare catastrophic power surge that I invested in a UPS. Every computer and electronic device I own is plugged into a APC surge protector or UPS.

I have two Back-UPS LS 500 Clear (Model: BP500CLR), 1 BackUPS Pro 420 (Model: BP420S), and 5 Personal SurgeArrests (Model: PER7T).

I did a quick search for the BP500CLR at Buy.com and its going for $113.99 and if you use Google checkout you can get $10 off, plus free shipping.

I hope this information helps.

Thanks a lot for the info!

I'd like to get one locally though. But that gives me an idea.

Those BP420S for each machine would be good for me I think.

Depends on how much you plan on putting onto the UPS. You say "machines" plural...

I had three machines on a 350VA Belkin and it lasted maybe 5 minutes. However, I had one powerhouse machine on a 900VA and it lasts like 20 minutes.

This weekend I bought an APC to replace my other Belkin.
