Heads on Fried Fish - Ang Aking Munting Mundo

About Heads on Fried Fish

Previous Entry Heads on Fried Fish Apr. 25th, 2008 @ 07:16 am Next Entry
When I was young, I didn't like eating fish. I would prefer pork or beef.

When I got older, I've been preferring fish whenever I can.

We went to Mambo Seafood last Monday. And I got this ginormous tilapia!

Do you like eating fish with heads on them?

It was also the Asians and Friends Pride Parade meeting.

I hated fish when I was a kid, my dad would always cook in the house and it stank, lol. Now I don't mind eating it, but I still can't eat one with a roly poly fish head.

I bet your folks love to eat it with the head.

What kind of fishes do they cook? Tilapia? Galunggong?

It would make me think that the rest of the fish hasn't been cleaned. I'd expect to cut into it and see guts!

In South Dakota -- and probably other places as well -- if a restaurant serves trout, the fish has to be served with the head on, by law. The reason is that until successful trout farming was in place, some restaurants would claim to be serving trout, when in fact they using something else and just calling it trout. Leaving the head on provided the diner with assurance that they were, indeed, eating a real trout.

They actually have a law for that. Wow!

So I take it you're more of a fish fillet eater. :-)

When I was younger and living in Mexico for two years the family was served fried fish with the head on it. I never touched the head and it was so bony or spiny that it took me a long time to eat.

Can you handle it now though? Or avoid it all together?

I avoid it simply because of the bones that you have to pick out of the fish before you eat it.
